Forum for Applied Art Nuremberg

The Forum for Applied Art was founded in 1996 and obtained the status of a non-profit organization in 2003. All the members work on a voluntary basis.

Its primary aim is to familiarize a larger public with contemporary arts and crafts and to encourage a vivid discussion about their position in the world of art.

The organization also supports young artists.

The Forum is involved in various activities in and around Nuremberg and in other parts of Germany, the most important of which are organizing special events and curating exhibitions.

In cooperation with some of the leading museums in Nuremberg, e.g. the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the State Museum for Art and Design, it has been possible to realize numerous exhibitions of applied art with national as well as international participants. The Forum published four catalogues accompanying four of these exhibitions.

Every other year the Forum organizes an event called „EinBlick“, in which local artists open their workshops to the public. This helps to promote local art and to encourage the exchange with artists from other parts of Germany, who are also invited to participate in these activities.

The Forum for Applied Art was honored with the Nuremberg Scholarship, from the city of Nuremberg, in 2001.

In 2012 it was given the Friedrich-Baur-Award from the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.
